WHAT WE DO
The World Health Organization (WHO) defines health broadly as “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. Guidelines are promulgated by many countries as part of health policies to promote positive changes in eating behaviours, ensure that nutritional needs are met, and reduce the risk of conditions associated with poor dietary patterns.
The value of BE YOUNG supplementation, is not simply a question of treating severe deficiency in individuals or specific communities but of the need to reach out to whole populations to protect them against the consequences of the subclinical conditions associated with inadequate micronutrient intake and its associated consequences.
INDIA FACES A UNIQUE CHALLENGE
Malnourishment in India is usually discussed as a problem of the underprivileged, rural population. But research is linking malnutrition to wealthier, urban populations — confusingly, the very same populations that also face rising rates of obesity. The term “hidden hunger” has been coined to denote a chronic lack of micronutrients whose effects may not be immediately apparent but whose consequences may be long-term and profound.
Micronutrients are vitamins and minerals that are essential for the functioning of the human body. They’re different from macronutrients — more complex molecules like proteins, carbohydrates and fats. You can think of micronutrients as the lower half of a food item’s nutrition label, and macronutrients as the upper half.
Micro-Nutrient Deficiency which we call "M.N.D" is so common around us that we ignore it completely.
Although Micro-Nutrient Deficiency may not seem like much, but it can add up and contribute to health risks in the long run, especially when obesity is already a factor — as it is for roughly 20% of men and 20% of women in India, according to the most recent National Family Health Survey, and 19% of children, by other estimates. Through extensive research we concluded that traditional diets aren’t necessarily the solution.
